It was all bright and colourful at the Huntersfield stadium in Katlehong as Basotho people were wearing their traditional attire. The event was held on the 12 March 2017 a day just after King Moshoeshoe’s birthday. Many local artists entertained the attendees with the mminowafamo (the Basotho music) and dance.
Matserume waMapena the treasure of the event said “We are celebrating the life of MoSotho and also promoting and educating the young stars to understand the history of our forefathers. The event is held annually around March with the Basothos wearing Seshoeshoe (Basotho dress) seanamarela (Basotho blanket).”
Anyone was allowed to join the celebrations and only artists who can sing ditolobonya were urged to register in order to entertain the crowd present at the event.
Thrilled artist TumeloTsotetsi representing Bohoengbanyatsi said “We always perform around Kathorus but being here is quite exciting because I got a chance to mingle with other Basotho, there is no place I would rather be”.
Excited fans were screaming at their favorite artists and singing along to the songs. Thabiso Maserumole, one of the attendee said “My favourite part here is hoithoka whereby people are given the chance to say their clan names. It makes me proud and reminds me where l come from as Mosotho.”
