There’s a billboard on the highway as you approach the Linksfield Road onramp by Edenvale which shows two hands – a white hand and a black hand – meeting in a brotherly handshake. It reads quite simply ‘Brotherly love’, and gives Psalm 133 as a scriptural reference.
There is no indication as to who placed the billboard there. I have many times tried to see on my way to work and found myself somewhat surprised that no one has taken credit for the arresting billboard. I can’t see any political party’s logo there. No church or company’s name. The message is straightforward and it seems its sponsor had no hidden agenda. This beautiful message cuts through the noise and chaos of the morning traffic.

Psalm 133: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.”
The billboard got me wondering what things might look like if politicians, community leaders, and residents put their personal agendas aside and kept their focus on the greater vision for this nation.
I believe however different we are, each of us wants the same thing: respect, love, affirmation, health, safety, and happiness.
You’ve heard of ‘vision boards’ on which people display images representing their goals and what they want to have in their lives.
These are then put up to help them keep focus of their goals for the year. Let this billboard be our ‘vision board’ for 2018. Whatever 2018 holds for us, let’s keep our eyes on the goal and not let the small stuff get in our way.
