Ekurhuleni honours top performer Kwesta

The City of Ekurhuleni has taken the time to honour one of its own stars during the council meeting held in Germiston on Thursday 30 November following an impressive recognition at the South African Music Awards (SAMA) 2017 Kwesta was given for his work as he scooped a total of five awards, namely, Best Male Artist of the Year, Best Rap Album, Highest Airplay of the Year for his single Ngud’ , Best Collaboration for the same track and finally Album of the Year.

It is without a doubt that the name Kwesta has become synonymous with excellence and ingenuity, the year 2017 has seen the young man push boundaries within the South African music industry even further.

Born in Katlehong on 11 August 1988, Senzo ‘Kwesta’ Vilakazi has made prominent strides within his music career. Spanning over 10 years, having started the journey as a teenager with nothing but a dream and taxi fare to Buttabing Entertainment in 2003, Kwesta’ s music has won the hearts of fans across the country and more recently made international inroads by featuring US rap artist Wale on his single ‘Spirit’.

Major highlights in his career include being a brand ambassador for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and headlining the national run up roadshows as well as the release of Dakar in 2013, his second album which did exceptionally well on the charts, debuting at number 3 on iTunes South Africa.

It is against these amazing achievements that the City of Ekurhuleni Council wishes to honour Kwesta for hoisting the flag high and inspiring a spirit of excellence not only for the youth of Ekurhuleni but also for the youth of South Africa.

The Arts and Culture domain is one characterized by expression and presentation of creative skill, it continues to be popular amongst the youth as it articulates meaning and restores value in our heritage. It is artistry that we witness through musicians such as Kwesta and others in the industry that proves that the spirit of creativity is still alive.
