EKURHULENI LENDS A HAND TO GIRL LEARNERS

Girl pupils from disadvantaged families are faced with a challenge of not having sanitary towels because their parents cannot afford to buy for them. To assist those who are in need, Ekurhuleni Department of Social Development based at Thokoza Customer Care Centre donated 384 packets of sanitary pads to grade six and seven pupils of Tshwarangano Primary School in Thokoza.

Ekurhuleni Department of Social Development social workers also educated the pupils about the menstruation cycle and how to use sanitary towels. Amogelang Motlokwa, a social worker said during their community and school engagement sessions they discovered that some pupils don’t have sanitary pads. She said some pupils are using unhealthy and unhygienic materials during their menstruation periods.

Melba Majadibodu, deputy principal of Tshwarangano Primary School said, “I am so excited and thankful for the sanitary pads donations.  Most of our learners are from disadvantaged families and their parents cannot afford to buy them sanitary towels.”
