LOCAL SPORTS COACHES EQUIPPED WITH SKILLS

Our Community Network Co-operative in partnership with the Institute of Sport conducted a four day training program called Generic Sport Coaching to equip local sports coaches with coaching skills.

The training was held at the Ekurhuleni School for the Deaf in Katlehong from 6-9 March 2017. The Generic Sport Coaching course was provided free of charge. The course is accredited and recognised nationally in sports.

Sipho Nkabinde, Business Development Executive at Our Community Network Co-operative said, “Coaches were empowered with knowledge of coaching in schools and around the communities. We taught coaches; sports coordination, sports administration and general sport coaching.”

He said they are also running the “Bringing back discipline through School Sports” competition. The competition is still running and will close on 31 March 2017.

“The competition is aimed at raising funds to improve sports facilities in township schools and create facilities where they don’t exist. The co-operative will be fixing school sports facilities with funds that will have been raised from the competition. After fixing each school, qualified coaches with knowledge of most sporting codes will be placed in schools to assist in sports development. Thus creating employment for coaches and the co-operative will also raise funds to offer coaches stipends,” said Nkabinde.
