Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane, Acting National Commissioner of Police said a thoroughly investigation will be conducted and those who are implicated will be dealt with.
He was addressing the media on Tuesday at the family house of the deceased Constable Tshepo Tladi (35) in Mokoena section, Katlehong. Constable Tladi was fatally shot on the head during a business robbery at Katlehong BP garage in Twala section on 12 January 2017 and died on the same day at the Union Hospital in Alberton.
Lieutenant General Phahlane and his team visited the deceased family to pay their respect. He said, “We consider what happened unfortunate, investigation will be conducted and disciplinary process will be followed if there is anything to do with us and we will act accordingly,” said Phahlane.
He said the person who circulated the video of the incident shows insensitivity. “On Saturday l got to know of the existing video. I did not expect it to go viral as investigation was underway. The video will also be used during the investigation. It is also difficult to understand on what was happening on the video, crime scene was tempered with and someone will be arrested. We will also verify the authenticity of the video,” said Phahlane.
He added, “SAPS will provide necessary support to the family and he will also be provided with an official funeral.”
It is alleged that a group of criminals were busy robbing BP garage at around 01:00 am on 12 January 2017 when the police officers arrived on the scene. Constable Tladi was shot on the head. He was taken to the hospital in a critical condition and died of gun wound later during the day of the incident.
The suspects ran away with a silver Audi Q7 getaway car and undisclosed amount of cash. No arrests have been made so far. A case of business robbery and murder was opened for investigation.
Constable Tladi left behind his wife and a three year-old child. His memorial service was held on yesterday at Uniting Reformed Church in Katlehong
