SPECIAL OPERATION SWOOPS IN ON BENONI CBD FOR UNDOCUMENTED PERSONS

On Friday, 15 July between 2pm and 10pm, the EMPD Bumper to Bumper operation raided shops, residences and buildings along Bunyan, Woburn, Voortrekker, Ampthill and Tom Jones roads in Benoni. The operation yielded fifty-seven (57) arrests – three (03) females and fifty-four (54) males who were found to be not in possession of valid and proper documentation to be legally in South Africa.
The arrestees included 06 Angolans, 07 Ugandans, 05 Mozambicans, 06 Zimbabweans, 04 Nigerians, 10 Bangladeshis, 04 Malawians and 15 from Democratic Republic of Congo. Their ages range between 23 and 60 and were detained at Benoni police station after charges of being undocumented were laid against them.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
