Taxido to perform in Madagascar

The international celebrated and well-known dance group; Taxido Arts Production from Katlehong will be jetting off to Antananarivo in Madagascar to participate at the 2016 Itrotra International Dance Festival from 20 to 25 September 2015.

Speaking to tame TIMES, Jerry Zwane, creative director and choreographer for Taxido Arts Production said they are very excited that they have been invited to perform at the 2016 Itrotra International Dance Festival. “It is for the first time going to perform in Madagascar and we are more than ready to showcase our African indigenous dance styles ranging from pantsula, kofifi and modern dance,” said Zwane.

He said the national Department of Arts and Culture has sponsored the group with flight tickets, artist and management fees. “We are still in need of money for about R60 000 for accommodation and food for five days that we will stay in Madagascar. We are requesting for sponsorship from corporate companies, local businesses and Ekurhuleni municipality,” said Zwane.

He said the Gauteng Department of Arts and Culture and National Arts Council are very supportive throughout their performances. Zwane highlighted that they have not yet received any assistance from the city of Ekurhuleni municipality while they are from Ekurhuleni and representing the city where ever they are going.

“We have not received any assistance from the city of Ekurhuleni Department of Arts and culture. We keep on knocking their doors and we are informed that there is no budget,”

“We won the World Cup and the City of Ekurhuleni Municipality leaders did not even call us to congratulate the team.  We were only recognised by the Gauteng Premier, David Makhura who called us to congratulate the team. We feel that we are not appreciated at home in Ekurhuleni while where ever we go we represent the city,” said disappointed Zwane.
