“What a coup to have Tevin Campbell performing on our stage in July 2016. His fans were quick off the mark to purchase tickets to his previous South African shows, leaving many disappointed at having missed out. Here is another chance to see this talented artist live on South African soil,” says Matthew Cook, Events and Entertainment Manager at Carnival City.
Fans can expect to hear many of Campbell’s popular hits as well as new material such as his latest single, “Safer”, released earlier this year. During his career, Campbell has been mentored by some of the world’s legendary artists including Quincy Jones and Prince. He has also worked with some of the industry’s top writers and producers including Babyface, Al B. Sure, Narada Michael Walden, Wyclef and Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Jones took a special interest in Campbell’s talent and featured on “Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me)”, which hit number one on the R&B charts in June 1990. Later that year, he appeared in Prince’s Graffiti Bridge film singing “Round and Round” which became a gold single. In the summer of 1991, he featured on the soundtrack to Boyz in the Hood singing “Just Ask Me To”, which went on to become a Top Ten R&B hit.
All of this set the stage for his debut album, 1991’s T.E.V.I.N., which went platinum and included two R&B chart toppers, “Tell Me What You Want Me to Do” and “Alone with You”, as well as the R&B Top Five hit “Goodbye”. I’m Ready, released two years later, went double platinum and featured three R&B chart hits, “Can We Talk”, “I’m Ready” and “Always in My Heart”. Campbell’s compilation album The Best of Campbell was an international success, reaching multi platinum status in Africa, Japan and the UK.
In recent years, Campbell has performed on Broadway, playing the role of Seaweed J. Stubbs in the musical Hairspray. Campbell reprised his role of Seaweed in the Broadway musical, Hairspray, in the Melbourne and Sydney productions in Australia.
Tickets to his shows at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena range in price from R295 per person and are available at Computicket.
