THANDI KLAASEN TO BE GIVEN A CIVIC FUNERAL

Jazz legend Thandi Klaasen’s funeral will be arranged and funded by the Ekurhuleni municipality and will be held as civic funeral.

The civic funerals are done to honour prominent people who have made an invaluable contribution to the upliftment of the City. Klaasen will be laid to rest tomorrow (Friday 27 January) at Tamboville Cemetery in Wattville, Ekurhuleni, where political stalwarts Oliver and Adelaide Tambo are buried.

Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa and Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Mzwandile Masina visited the family in Eden Park last week to pay tribute to the late jazz star and to help with the logistics of the funeral.

Klaasen died on 15 Sunday January after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
