Vosloorus Cricket Club (VCC), a registered Cricket Union, is an emerging local cricket club based in Vosloorus seeking resources and sponsorship to further develop the club and nurture the local cricket talent.

VCC was established in 1993 and officially registered in 1997 and still is battling with resources.  Despite all the challenges faced by the club it has developed professional players in the national , provincial and regional level namely; Lerato Langa  who is part of the South African Women  Cricket Team, Lesiba Ngwepe  is currently playing for Warriors Cricket club based in East London and  TumeloBodibe who plays for the Knights Cricket Club.

Speaking to tame TIMES, Mpho Korong, secretary for VCC said,“We are lacking in terms of resources and equipment such as cricket kits, bats, pads, cricket balls, nets and a proper cricket playing ground. We want to build a premier league club. We are nurturing the talent and most of the clubs are scouting talent from us. Our club is shrinking instead of growing.”

He added that they are looking for sponsors that will assist with funds to grow the club. “We have eight teams in total; u/8, u/10, u/12, u/14, three senior teams and one ladies team. We need refreshments and food for the players during the tournaments.   We also invite parents and guardians to attend our local tournaments as a way of motivating our players,” said Korong.

He said cricket helps to keep the children away from the streets. “The youngsters and youth are passionate about cricket as it keeps them away from doing wrong things. Our aim is to grow the club to be a cricket hub,” he said.
