Two women, aged 33 and 32 years, were recently sentenced to two years house arrest by the Germiston Magistrate’s Court after they were found guilty of stealing money from their place of employment in Boeing Road East, Bedfordview.
Warrant Officer Mduduzi Nhlabathi, Bedfordview police spokesperson, said approximately R80 000 had been taken by the women between June and October last year.
He said an employee at the company had been doing payroll when he discovered the balancing sheets weren’t balancing. “On investigation, he found the suspects had paid five people unknown to the company.”
On investigation, it was discovered the women had formed a partnership in stealing money from the company. They were arrested and charged with theft. “Their two-year house arrest sentencing is accompanied by strict conditions, such as reimbursing the complainant with the amount taken from the company,” said WO Nhlabathi. “They were also declared unfit to possess firearms for the rest of their lives.”
The case was investigated by WO William Madisha.
