Another Fire At Charlotte Maxeke Hospital

Yet another fire broke out at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg,  Gauteng, but the Gauteng Health Department said that the fire has been brought under control.

It’s been well over a year since a fire at the hospital destroyed property and forced the closure of the facility while repairs were being made. It is only recently that the hospital reopened for business and not all of the damage has been repaired. Several areas remain closed to the public and staff while construction crews continue to work.

The trauma unit of the hospital was completely destroyed by the fire in April 2021. The hospital is also the home and school for medical students from several universities, particularly the University of the Witwatersrand.

The blaze broke out on Tuesday in the unused P2 parking bay. According to officials, the fire was contained only to a small section of the level 2 parking area.  Meanwhile, an investigation by the Hillbrow Police Station has been launched to determine the cause of the latest fire.
