Reports of a shooting on a section of the N3 through Johannesburg have reached us on Thursday morning. The incident took place after the off-ramp for Modderfontein. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene after reports of the attack came through just after 9:00.
The Edenvale Community Police Forum issued a statement on the matter earlier on Thursday, noting that there was an ‘active crime scene’ in the Modderfontein region.
“Motorists have been advised to avoid the N3 northbound at Modderfontein offramp. The road has been closed, due to there being an active crime scene. No further information has been received at this time.”

According to eyewitnesses, at least one victim was receiving treatment from first responders by the roadside. Details about this shooting remain unclear, but the impact it had on the N3 traffic flow through Johannesburg has been disastrous.
It’s now been confirmed that the right lane of the N3 northbound, just as you approach the Modderfontein Road off-ramp, has been closed off. Motorists are advised to approach the area with caution, given that exit queues were spilling onto the slow lane of the carriageway.

Preliminary reports from the scene suggest that two people were shot in the attack. Anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee shared the news on his social media pages, but wouldn’t confirm any more details apart from the actual location of the incident.
