Man Rescued After Truck Crashes Into River In Diepsloot

On Friday afternoon just after 16h00, Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a collision involving a Sport Utility Vehicle and a truck on the N14 in the Diepsloot area.
On arrival on the scene, it was established that a heavy-duty vehicle and a sports utility vehicle had collided on national highway 14, before both vehicles careened off the bridge, plunging into the Jukskei River below.
Paramedics and search and Rescue services acted swiftly managing to free the occupants of the heavy-duty vehicle, however, the driver and only occupant of the SUV was found to be severely entrapped in the wreckage.
A multi-disciplinary effort between Emer-G-Med, the South African Police Services’ Search and Rescue Units as well as Gauteng Provincial services, saw a rescue operation take place, where the man was cut free and brought to safety.
Once freed from the wreckage he was placed onto a mechanical ventilator to assist him with his breathing and stabilized by Advanced life support paramedics before a decision was made to airlift him through to a specialist facility with the assistance of the Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter.
