Residents in the Brackendowns policing precinct have been encouraged to join the Community Police forum (CPF) patrollers.
This is regulated in a way in which a community member can actively participate in the fight against crime without a professional qualification or previous experience.
The objectives of the CPF concept are to promote reporting of criminal activities and any suspicious behaviour in the communities, increased visibility to deter criminal activities, and activate community participation in crime prevention initiatives.
Brackendowns police Station has three sectors: Sector 1 which consists of Brackendowns, Kliprivier road and Ext 5. Sector 2 is Meyersdal and Brackenhurst. Sector 3 is Mayberry Park, Albertsdal, Leopards rest, Alrode, Alrode South, Caravan Park and Thinasonke.
The following principles of volunteering as a patroller should be adhered to: professionalism, accountability, dedication and commitment, honesty, transparency and non-discriminatory practices.
The patroller should get involved in structured community safety initiatives, projects, and a formal police community partnership. The patroller is expected to: know, understand the code of conduct and adhere to it; understand channels of communication and utilise them appropriately; perform duties promptly and reliably; patrol in approved uniform and insignia and report to the CPF, sector forum and sector chairman.
All recruited patrollers must complete a registration form and must submit fingerprints for screening purposes. Fingerprints will be forwarded to the local Criminal Record Centre for verification.
Currently Brackendowns police has about 28 registered CIB patrollers. There needs to be patrollers in each suburb in Brackendowns policing precinct.
“We are ready and waiting for you to join the Community Police Forum patrollers.”
