Police captain behind bars for stealing diesel

A North West police captain arrested for allegedly stealing diesel from a state vehicle will apply for bail in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 15 February.

The 50-year-old Juan Oosthuizen was arrested for allegedly siphoning diesel from a police vehicle.

North West police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says in a statement that Oosthuizen appeared in court on Thursday 9 February 2023 facing a charge of theft. The case against him was postponed to 15 February for a formal bail application.

“The captain, from the Brits’ visible policing unit, was allegedly caught on Saturday, 4 February 2023, draining diesel out of the tank of a parked state vehicle.

“Consequent to investigation by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU), the member was arrested on Wednesday 8 February 2023,” Mokgwabone said.

North West Provincial Police Commissioner, Sello Kwena, commended the ACIU members for putting behind bars “unethical employees who tarnish the image of the police”.
